The Difficulty of Accepting a Free Gift……

Hey guys!

It’s been a loooonnnggg while! I had to move web-hosts and not being a person well versed in websites, this became a massive woo-ha for me. Anyway, we are back and running and I think it’s safe to say, I am NEVER doing that again!

I felt this post is timely as we are in the Holy week leading up to the day when Jesus overcame and gave us the greatest gift we can ever receive – the free gift of Salvation.

It’s funny because when it comes to our faith, thinking about it, it seems that stage should be the easiest and fastest stage for all of us right? Receiving this free gift, accepting it as it is without any pre-conditions attached to it.

Receiving something for free is something I personally struggle with. I don’t know why or where it’s come from (probably my childhood as most things tend to originate from there lol). I am much more comfortable giving love, giving to others and going out of my way for other people than I am receiving the exact same thing. I always have the question in my mind ‘But why are they doing this for me? What have I done to deserve this?  Do they want something in return? Are they going to hold this against me as leverage for something in the future? Ok, so now I need to do something back for them. *I’m just being real here….these are some of the thoughts that run through my mind*

In that same way, many of us struggle with the concept of Christ’s love towards us, the concept of the grace of His salvation for our souls. Like what have we ever done to deserve it??!!!! In fact if He was to base us receiving salvation on our deeds, NONE OF US would ever qualify, because I can tell you that on a daily basis I fall, sin and have to constantly repent and depend on God to be the way He desires me to be. It may not be ‘capital sins’, but it could be a look here, a judgement there, a rude word there etc…..these are all stains.

But yet still, in all His loving-kindness and grace towards EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US, He has given us this free gift of salvation and there is absolutely nothing we can ever do to prove we deserve it.

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Ephesians 2: 8-10

So actually, accepting this free gift can prove difficult and it’s a battle of the mind we all have to fight through and overcome and know that our Father’s love is truly out of this world….there is nothing like it. Whenever I think of this, I am even more determined to live a life pleasing to Him, to honour Him with all I do…because His love is simply unsearchable, indescribable.
